The Seven Cardinal Sins
Sloth, Lust, Greed, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath, and Pride. During the Middle Ages, the seven deadly sins played a major part in everyday life. Jheronimus Bosch painted them several times. He even made them the main subject in one of his paintings. With this painting, he shows his contemporaries how not to live. In fact, he is warning all those who view the painting.
And how do 21st-century people look at this painting? Do we feel that his warnings personally concern us? Does this categorisation of sins still appeal to us, or has our modern sense of standards and values changed our views on sin?
